'soft' approach to integrating artwork- e.g. using existing on-site materials
MAJOR CENTRAL FEATURE: SOLAR CLOCK - Sundial
· Sundial/solar clock 15M. dia. At lookout.
· An opportunity to create a major central feature artwork while leaving the site essentially untouched.
· Use of on-site boulders to mark passage of time
· Boulders sawn & polished on one face to carry artwork & text, sandblasted into polished surface.
· Gnomon ( Shadow Bar) constructed from steel-naturally rusted and treated with Penatrol Rust Inhibitor.
· Steel gnomon represents human occupation of site- rusting steel is symbolic of industry bound in the passage of time.
· Boulders represent natural world marking the passage of man's progress through artwork and time-telling.
· Solar clock would be genuine 'scienific instrument' accurate to 4 No. decimal places.
· By it's nature the Solar Clock creates a unique precinct within the proposed development; a place of peace and contemplation, yet intellectually stimulating to all ages.
KANGAROOS
· Ubiquitous to the site.
· Most visible fauna.
· Artworks make no attempt to 'illustrate' kangaroos. Design criteria attempts to capture essence of the movement through the landscape.
· Graphic interpretation of kangaroo motif in sheet steel- visual 'ripple' effect- shadows moving through the landscape, achieved by cutting diagonal 25mm wide strips through the steel.
· Steel treated exactly as Solar Gnomon.
